Construction of a second container terminal along south quays in the port

DURATION OF THE PROJECT : 46 months

PROJECT BENEFICIARIES : port operators, shipping lines, shippers and national and sub
regional economy

PROJECT OBJECTIVES :

  • Enable the construction of a second container terminal through a consortium including at least one major ship owner
  • Create ship owners loyalty and increase significantly transshipment traffic
  • Turn the port of Abidjan into a real hub for container traffic half way between the major shipping lines in Northern and southern Africa

PROJECT DESCRIPTION :

  • Build 1250 m long and 18 m deep quay
  • Reclaim about 38 ha of land space
  • Develop open storage area
  • Equip the terminal with advanced handling machines

JUSTIFICATION :

  • high passage cost
  • willingness to increase transshipment and become the main sub regional hub
  • make available quays to handle large container ships

 

 


EXPECTED OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT

  • Make available a second modern container terminal
  • Improve the competitiveness of the port through the reduction of Port passage cost
  • Increase significantly container traffic and particularly container traffic in transshipment
