The 20th IALA-AISM Conference (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities - Association Internationale de Signalisation Maritime) was held in the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro, from 29 May to 03 June 2023, at the Windsor Convention and Expo Center. The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) was represented by Colonel COFFIE Yao Emmanuel, the Abidjan Port’s Commander, and Mr TRAORÉ Kassoum, the PAA’s Logistics Director.
More than 600 participants from ports around the world attended the 2023 event, whose theme was "Maritime Aids to Navigation - Innovation for a Sustainable Future." Participants exchanged and shared experiences during sixteen (16) training sessions on sustainability, management of innovative technological solutions in the field of navigation and maritime signalling, risk management, communication and cyber security, Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) operation and training, as well as radar technologies.
The meeting was an opportunity for IALA to present its activities, and for participants to take a virtual tour of the lighthouse at Ilha Rasa (Brazil). The six (06) days of work and reflection also included industrial and photographic exhibitions.
The 4th Heritage Seminar and the 77th Board Meeting were also held alongside this important meeting in the field of navigation.
IALA-AISM, created on 1 July 1957, is an international organisation for aids to maritime navigation, whose objectives are to enhance safe and efficient ship traffic, to promote access to technical cooperation, and to encourage and facilitate the widespread adoption of standards for aids to maritime navigation.
