THE PORT AUTHORITY DONATES A NEW BUILDING TO THE ANTI-DRUGS POLICE IN THE ABIDJAN PORT
In order to enhance the effectiveness of the fight against the trafficking of illegal products, including narcotics and drugs, at the Abidjan hub port, the Port Authority has renovated a new building and made it available to the Drugs and Narcotics Police Department (DPSD) as part of its support for the national police force.
The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday 20 February 2024, in the presence of the Director General of the National Police (DGPN), the General Administrator of the Police, KOUYATÉ Youssouf, who was accompanied on the occasion by his close collaborators.
The symbolic handing over of the keys was done by the head of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, in the presence of some of his close collaborators.
Before touring the new premises of the Abidjan Port’s narcotics and drugs police unit, Police General Administrator KOUYATÉ Youssouf expressed his delight at receiving the new premises. He also praised the Port Authority's action, which he said was part of the economic players' support for the National Police's mission.
On behalf of the Minister of the Interior and in his own name, he congratulated the Managing Director of PAA for the constant support provided to his units in the port area. He went on to say that the provision of this building, in addition to two (2) new vehicles, will enable his units to be more efficient.
For his part, the Managing Director of the PAA praised the action of the Police in the general framework of port safety and security, and mainly in the ongoing fight against the trafficking of all kinds of illicit products, specifically narcotics and drugs.
While expressing the hope that the police officers stationed at this branch will make good use of their new premises, he reaffirmed the PAA's determination to stand by the National Police in its fight against the scourge of drugs, a serious threat to the future of Ivorian youth.
The Abidjan Port's anti-drugs unit was set up in 2005 and is currently under the command of Commissioner DEMBÉLÉ Patricia, married name BAMBA, and has 16 officers.
The new building has a fully-equipped and furnished office for the commissioner, four fully-equipped and furnished offices for the agents, a shop for securing the illicit products seized, and a violin with toilets for police custody.
