ANNUAL AIVP CONFERENCE IN LISBON: THE TOP MANAGEMENT OF ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY ATTENDS THE 19th WORLD CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PORTS AND CITIES
The Port of Lisbon hosted the 19th World Conference of the International Association of Cities and Ports (AIVP) from November 27 to 29, 2024, at the Champalimaud Foundation, under the theme: “Open Quays: When Flows Connect Citizens, Port Cities, and the Planet.”
This global meeting aimed to share insights and solutions for the future sustainable development of port cities, the ongoing and completed projects for small and big cities in both developed and developing countries, focusing on economic integration, urban quality of life, and environmental concerns.
The Abidjan Port Authority, represented by its Managing Director, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, actively participated in the discussions, sharing its experiences and exploring collaborative opportunities with other ports.
The opening ceremony, held on November 27, featured delegates from five continents and keynote speeches from Mr. Bruno DELSALLE, AIVP Director-General, and Mr. José M. P. SANCHEZ, Director of AIVP’s Agenda 2030 program.
Several resolutions have been adopted during the first day of the General Meeting.
The first one dealt with the 2025 budget validation. The second one on the statutory amendment of permanent representations of AIVP. The third one on the appointment of new board members.
Workshops addressing cruising, governance and environmental issues also took place.
A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the inaugural “Antoine Rufenacht” AIVP Award, recognizing city-port projects. The award was granted to Tanger Med Port in Morocco for its innovative urban-port development project.
The AIVP’s Agenda 2030, emphasizes fostering collaboration between port authorities and local governments, facilitates the sharing of experience and good practices meant for sustainable development of port areas, awareness raising of city-port interface issues, urban integrated planning and also addressing economic, social and environmental dimensions in port development.
