8th EDITION OF NATIONAL COCOA AND CHOCOLATE DAYS: ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY ATTENDED THE EVENT
The Coffee-Cocoa Board (CCB) organized from 30 September to 2nd October 2022, the 8th edition of National Cocoa-Chocolate days on the central theme: “Local processing of Cocoa; opportunities for chocolate artisans”.
The opening Ceremony of this important gathering of the stakeholders of cocoa sector took place on Friday 30 September 2022 at Heden Golf Hotel, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr Tiemoko Meyliet KONE, Vice president of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. According to Mr Kobenan Kouassi ADJOUMANI, Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, these days aimed at giving the opportunity to the players of the Cocoa sector to give some serious thought with a view to value the role of cocoa in the national economy. He pointed out that these days form part of the vision of His Excellency Mr Alassane OUATTARA, President of the Republic who has strived to make Cote d’Ivoire an industrialized country through the local processing of raw materials.
These days provide a platform to draw attention to all the activities of the cocoa industry, to honor the producers, to help local population to discover the benefits of chocolate for health and to provide economic operators with the opportunities offered for the processing of cocoa.
During his opening address, His Excellency Mr Tiemoko Meyliet KONE solemnly announced the farmgate price set by the government for the 2022-2023 harvest year. For Cocoa, the price is set at 900CFAF/Kg as against 825 CFAF the previous harvest year, which accounts increase for increase of 75 CFAF. Coffee, on the other hand, will be sold at 750 CFAF/Kg.
Abidjan Port Authority participated in the event as a partner, as it is a major Hub for trade and an indispensable link in the coffee-cocoa export chain. During these three days, the Port operated an exhibition booth which enabled visitors to discover its modern infrastructure and advanced equipment as a Hub Port to support international trade in Cote d’Ivoire.
