THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY TOOK PART IN PMAWCA TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETINGS IN LIBREVILLE
From 8 to 10 April 2024, the Office des Ports et Rades du Gabon (OPRAG) hosted the work of two technical committees of the Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), as part of OPRAG's fiftieth anniversary celebrations.
In accordance with the 2024 annual programme of activities, adopted at the 43rd council meeting of this association, the work of the “Finance and Economic Studies” and “administrative and Legal Affairs” committees were held in the Gabonese capital.
Over the course of the three days, experts from 24 port authorities, including the Abidjan Port Authority, examined a number of issues ranging from administrative management to strategic financial planning in PMAWCA ports.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Jean-Marie Koffi, Secretary General of PMAWCA, stressed upon the importance of ongoing collaboration between the technical committees. “Our areas of expertise complement each other, and it is by working together that we can successfully meet the challenges we face,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Gabonese authorities, in particular the Head of State, General Brice OLIGUI NGUEMA, for having authorised and facilitated the organisation of these meetings in his country.
The Managing Director of OPRAG, Mr. Martin BOUGUIKOUMA, who is also current Chairman of PMAWCA and Executive Chairman of the Pan-African Association for Port Cooperation (APCP), expressed his satisfaction with the guidelines and relevant proposals put forward at the end of the proceedings.
He stated that given the importance of maritime transport in the economies of countries, port cooperation should be encouraged in order to make African ports more competitive and resilient.
Following on from these technical committee meetings, the APCP/IAPH conference would be held on 11 and 12 April 2024, also in Libreville, to discuss issues relating to resilient and intelligent African ports.
