THE ABIDJAN PORT SUCCESSFULLY RECEIVES THE FIRST TEST SHIPS TO THE SITE OF THE NEW CONTAINER TERMINAL
The commissioning of the second container terminal (TC2) of the Abidjan Port is taking shape.
The new container terminal of the Abidjan Port, which will be delivered and put into service by November 2022, hosted from12 to 14 October, its first test calls, successfully carried out on the container ship MSC Floriana.
These tests allowed the assessment of the ship's unloading and loading operations by the shore gantry cranes, as well as the handling of containers on the yard, thanks to RTG gantry cranes and Gaussin electric tractors.
It was also an opportunity to conclusively evaluate all the systems, including the Terminal Operating System (TOS), interfaced with the customs billing systems.
Ranking in pole position among the major projects contained in the strategic vision of the Abidjan Port Authority, the second container terminal, once operational, will allow the reception and processing of container ships of 14,000 containers with a draft of 16m.
This project for the creation of a second container terminal was made possible thanks to investments of about 269 billion CFA francs financed upstream by the Abidjan Port Authority for the construction of infrastructure, and 262 billion CFA francs of investments for the concessionaire Côte d'Ivoire Terminal, for the construction of superstructures and the acquisition of equipment for this flagship of the Ivorian port industry.
With the success of the tests and the upcoming commissioning of TC2, the Abidjan Port is undeniably positioning itself as a catalyst for the Ivorian economy.
