ACTORS FROM THE ABIDJAN PORT TRAINED ON NUCLEAR, RADIOLOGICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL RISKS
Since 2020, Côte d'Ivoire has been benefiting through the Permanent Secretariat of the Intermenstrual Committee for State Action at Sea (SEPCIM-AEM), from a European Union project called We CAPS. That project is aimed at strengthening the security and safety capacities of West and Central African ports.
It is within this framework that a training and awareness-raising seminar on nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical (NRBC) risks was organized from Monday 06 to Friday 10 February 2023 at the Head Office of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA). Several actors took part in this session led by Expertise France. These included the police and gendarmerie of the Abidjan Port, the customs services, the fire brigade of PAA and the personnel from the PAA's Direction of Maritime Operations, Security and Environment.
At the end of the training, the participants through their spokesperson, Commander Alexis AMANI, Head of Department at the PAA, in charge of hazardous materials, praised the Port Authority, which made this upgrading possible, which will undoubtedly enable them to better handle the hazardous materials transiting through the Abidjan Port platform.
As for the trainer, Lieutenant-Colonel Denis BARKAT, Head of the Division of Specialty Jobs at the National School of Fire Brigade Officers in France, he urged the learners to make the most of this awareness-raising session in order to identify and mark out NRBC risks.
