AFRICAN CIRCULAR ECONOMY FORUM - ECOCIR ABIDJAN 2023: THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY SUPPORTS THE EVENT
Côte d'Ivoire hosted the 1st African Circular Economy Forum, known as ECOCIR Abidjan 2023, from 18 to 21 October 2023, organised by the Autonomous District of Abidjan. The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) took part in the event, which focused on the theme of "The Circular Economy for the Sustainable Development of Africa's Territories."
The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday 18 October 2023 at the Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire in Abidjan, under the patronage of the Prime Minister, HEM. Robert BEUGRÉ MAMBÉ, represented for the occasion by the Minister for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition, Mr. ASSAHORÉ KONAN Jacques.
The choice of the theme responded to the major challenges linked to the new mutation towards which African territories should be moving. This implies taking into account all strategic sectors. These include issues such as waste recovery, urban and regional planning with a focus on industrial symbiosis, and the fight against all forms of pollution and climate change in order to achieve development objectives.
The PAA, as good corporate citizen, is fully committed to preserving the environment. With the aim of becoming an international benchmark port hub, the port authority has drawn up an environmental policy in line with its objectives, with a view to reducing the environmental impact of its activities. As an ISO 14001 version 2015-certified institution, the port authority took part part in this major forum by running a stand.
In his speech, Minister ASSAHORÉ KONAN emphasised that the implementation of a circular economy would lead to the materialisation of "the global partnership for sustainable development." He pointed out that the main aim of the circular economy was to promote a strong, shared and sustainable economic growth. The Prime Minister's representative went on to encourage the people of Africa, and of Côte d'Ivoire in particular, to join in this drive to preserve their environment and develop their economies.
During these days, several panels and colloquia on a wide range of topics were organised. There were also sales exhibitions, master classes, community actions and a number of other attractions.
