AIVP: AN ASSOCIATION DEDICATED TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF CITIES AND PORTS
Founded in 1988 in Le Havre (France), where its headquarters are located, the International Association of Cities and Ports (AIVP) emerged from the exchange of experiences surrounding the transformation of city-port interfaces. Today, it is a globally recognized organization that supports joint city-port sustainable development strategies worldwide.
To fulfill its mission, AIVP leverages tools such as collaboration between port authorities and local governments, knowledge-sharing, and best practices for sustainable port area development. It also raises awareness about city-port interface issues, promotes integrated urban planning, and incorporates economic, social, and environmental dimensions into port development strategies.
AIVP acts as a catalyst for innovative and sustainable city-port projects. Through its agenda for sustainable development of port cities, it fosters dialogue, generates exchanges, and offers solutions for renewing maritime or fluvial living environments. It emphasizes economic performance driven by the blue economy, mobilizing citizen dialogue around the port and its missions, and addressing global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity protection.
As a partner of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, AIVP advocates for dialogue among stakeholders involved in port city projects, upholding values such as sharing, solidarity, sustainable development, innovation, public interest, and civic engagement.
For its operations, AIVP is structured around a Board of Directors, a General Assembly, and a Directorate General. Its members are divided into three groups: the Local Authorities Group, the Port Authorities Group, and the Professionals Group. Its official working languages are English, French, and Spanish.
Abidjan Port Authority is a member of this prestigious association, which spans 49 countries across all continents.
AIVP has over 210 members, including local governments, ports, architects, urban planners, companies, and academics who contribute to the development of cities and ports or study their various economic, social, or spatial dimensions.
Each year, AIVP organizes a conference to address key issues that improve relationships between cities and ports.
