COTE D’IVOIRE TERMINAL (CIT) ORGANIZED A PRESS VISIT TO THE TC2 CONSTRUCTION SITE
On Tuesday 22 February 2022, Mr Koen DE BACKKER and members of his staff invited the national and international press to a guided tour of the ongoing TC2 construction project, so as to be informed about the progress of Abidjan Port’s project, which is due to be delivered in November 2022.
On that occasion, the Abidjan Port Authority, represented by Mr N’DOLI Kouadio, Director of Engineering and Project Management took part in the event and made a presentation of the new Terminal, highlighting the history, its cost, technical specifications and what is at stake economically and for the leading position of Abidjan Port on the West African Cost.
Prior to the field visit, the Management of CIT indicated that the superstructure works of TC2 which took off since December 2020, covering an area of 37.5 ha, were progressing steadily to meet the deadlines. Thus at the end of January 2022 the works were carried out up to 60%. The first 6 shore cranes and the 7 gantry cranes will be delivered by mid-April 2022.
The setting up of these superstructures will require an overall investment of Euro 400 million, representing CFAF 262 billion.
TC2 will be labelled ‘’ Green Terminal” in compliance with the most appropriate environmental standards. All the handling equipment including the trucks ordered in 2020 will be powered by electricity, and digital solutions meant at dematerializing all the processes are expected to be implemented in the Terminal.
Once in operation, the new terminal will enable the Abidjan Port to handle the biggest ships servicing the African Coasts and raise the Container traffic to 2.5 TEU’S.
