GENDER ENGINEERING: 80 AUDITORS FROM THE 7TH UNESCO CHAIR CLASS, INCLUDING 12 FROM THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY, RECEIVE THEIR CERTIFICATES
The seventh (7th) cohort in Gender Engineering, comprising 80 experts, including 12 from Abidjan Port Authority’s General Directorate, held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Latrille Event space in Cocody Deux Plateaux.
The participation of Abidjan Port Authority staff in this training reflects the vision of its Managing Director, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, who has made gender promotion a central pillar of his managerial policy.
The experts were presented and received their certificates in the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Prof. Eric SERVAT, Director of UNESCO’s International Water Center (ICEWARD Montpellier) and patron of the cohort; Minister Euphrasie KOUASSI YAO, holder of the UNESCO Chair on Water, Women, and Decision-Making Power; and Dr. Titi PALÉ, Director of Commercial, Marketing, and Communication at Abidjan Port Authority, representing the Managing Director.
After nine months of training, these graduates were recognized as capable of planning and implementing coherent, inclusive, and high-impact public and private interventions.
During the ceremony, Minister Euphrasie KOUASSI YAO highlighted the innovative and inclusive approach of this program, which values both positive femininity and positive masculinity. “This methodology, developed in Côte d’Ivoire, has proven its effectiveness and is now accredited on the international market for gender approaches,” she stated.
The cohort’s patron, Prof. Eric SERVAT, praised the exemplary journey of these certified experts, who are also tasked with promoting excellence and high standards in their work.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mrs. Fatim DAO, their representative, expressed gratitude to the trainers and institutional partners for their support.
This colorful ceremony celebrated the achievements and recognition of the 7th cohort, which included 19 men and 61 women from Chad, Benin, Gabon, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire.
The UNESCO Chair “Water, Women, and Decision-Making Power” (CUEFPOD), an internationally recognized structure in gender and development, has worked since its inception to create a favorable environment for gender promotion.
As part of its activities to empower actors in advancing gender approaches in Côte d’Ivoire and beyond, the Chair trained this seventh cohort of professionals in Gender Engineering.
The ceremony took place in a context where Côte d’Ivoire is being celebrated for its efforts in promoting gender equality. The country was recently designated as Africa’s champion in fighting discrimination against girls and women in the 2023 Global Report of the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) by the OECD.
