PORT-RELATED PROFESSIONS, THE FOCUS OF AN ENRICHING EXCHANGE BETWEEN STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS
On September 12, 2025, as part of the festivities marking the Port of Abidjan’s 75th anniversary, a Meet-Up workshop was held at the port’s Grain Terminal, bringing together students and port sector professionals for a constructive discussion.
The main objective of this event was to introduce young people to the wide range of port-related professions—often little-known but essential to the proper functioning of the national economy.
Organized as a series of panels, the workshop featured experts from various port disciplines, including maritime logistics, terminal management, safety and security, customs operations, cargo handling, and environmental management. These professionals shared their career paths, provided insights from the field, and presented the numerous career opportunities offered by the Abidjan Port platform.
In front of an audience largely composed of students from universities and technical institutes, the panelists answered many questions, shedding light on often-overlooked aspects of the port sector.
“This exchange allowed me to discover the diversity of port professions and to learn about jobs I had never considered,” said Blandine Akossi, a student in logistics.
Beyond the simple presentation of professions, this initiative had both an educational and inspirational dimension, aiming to prepare the next generation and bring young people closer to the professional world.
Following the discussions, students toured the port facilities to better understand the strategic role of the Port of Abidjan in international trade, and also exploring potential internship and employment opportunities in the sector.
The Abidjan Port Authority, organizer of this event, expressed its satisfaction with the enthusiasm generated and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting youth through awareness raising and training initiatives.
This day of September 12 was part of a broader series of commemorative activities celebrating 75 years of a port recognized as the economic engine of Côte d’Ivoire and the West African sub-region.
A highly successful event, once again highlighting the vital link between training, local skill development, in the strategic sectors of the country.
By including this exchange with young people in the anniversary program, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority, proudly embraces the vision of His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic, who places youth training at the heart of his governance policy.
