INTERNATIONAL CRUISE: THE NORWEGIAN SKY CALLS AT THE ABIDJAN PORT IN A NOTABLE STOPOVER
On Friday, May 23, 2025, the Abidjan Port hosted a nearly nine-hour stopover by one of the flagships of international cruising: the Norwegian Sky. This American luxury cruise ship, measuring 258.57 meters in length with a draft of 7.9 meters, docked at the port with over 650 passengers aboard, arriving from the Port of Cape Town (South Africa).
A flagship of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the Norwegian Sky—initially launched as the Pride of Aloha—is a symbol of excellence in cruising. Commissioned in 1999 and fully renovated in 2004, the ship features 12 decks and offers passengers a premium experience combining comfort, entertainment, and gastronomy.
This stopover in Abidjan allowed cruise passengers to explore several highlights of Côte d’Ivoire’s cultural heritage, including the Bingerville Botanical Garden, Banco Forest, the historic city of Grand-Bassam, and other tourist sites. More importantly, it reinforced the strategic position of the Abidjan Port within the West African maritime landscape. With its capacity to handle large ships meeting international standards, the Abidjan Port is increasingly establishing itself as a must-see destination for cruise operators navigating the Atlantic coast of the continent.
This stop forms part of a broader strategy to position Côte d’Ivoire as a major tourism hub by capitalizing on modern port infrastructure and a safe, well-organized welcome for international visitors.
The Norwegian Sky’s call once again confirms that the Abidjan Port is fully equipped to meet the rising demands of the global cruise industry.
