Safety Agents of Port Facilities Trained to ISPS Code
About twenty agents of the Abidjan Port are taking part to a training seminar on ISPS Code (International Ships and Security Code) from 24 to 28 January 2022.
Initiated by the Interregional Maritime Security Institute (ISMI) of the Regional Academy of Sea Sciences and Techniques (ARSTM), the training is part of the West and Central Africa Port Security (We CAPS) project.
That project is funded by European Union and steered by France Expertise. It aims to strengthen the protection of West and Central Africa ports against the risks in terms of security and safety.
In order to achieve its objective, the project supports the capacity building of the partners while addressing the ports’ vulnerabilities.
The launching ceremony of the seminar took place at the auditorium of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), under the presidency of Mr. Hien Yacouba SIE, Managing Director of PAA, in the presence of several authorities, including the General Manager of ARSTM, the General Manager of Maritime and Port Affairs, the head of European Union delegation, and the representative of the Secretary Permanent in charge of the State Action at Sea.
We should point out that the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority was represented by Colonel COFFI Yao Emmanuel, Commander of Abidjan Port.
ISPS Code proves to be a true prevention system of illicit acts, including piracy, terror acts, illicit traffic (weapon smuggling, drugs, sabotage, goods robbery, hostage taking, illegal immigration, etc.).
