VISIT OF ABIDJAN PORT BY THE MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS ACCREDITED IN COTE D’IVOIRE
On Wednesday 08 June, 2022 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora decided to the help the members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Côte d’Ivoire discover the Abidjan Port’s facilities with the aim of highlighting the economic infrastructures which are the pillars of the development of Côte d’Ivoire.
Mr Hien Yacouba SIE , Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) expressed his appreciation as to the interest shown by the diplomats for Abidjan Port, and made a presentation of this major infrastructure of the Ivorian economy through its assets , its strategic role in the west African sub region, the evolution of its traffic , its development projects and its prospects .
Mr VAFLAHI MEITE, Director General of the Economic Diplomacy head of delegation acknowledged the remarkable work accomplished by the Top Management of PAA with a view of developing the port and consolidating its fundamentals so as to better serve the national economy, but also to reinforce its leading role in the sub-region .
In his comment on the purpose of the visit , he pointed out that economic diplomacy is a means to further develop international cooperation , which is the needed tool to achieve the strategic vision of his excellency Mr. ALLASSANE OUATTARA President of the Republic , the aim being to double the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita by the year 2030, and to build a Côte d’Ivoire with more solidarity .
After the first part of the visit which took place at the Seamen’s Club, the members of the diplomatic corps went for a guided tour of the port facilities. Thus, they were able to discover , among other infrastuctures , the widened and deepened Vridi Canal as well as the construction site of the second Container Terminal (TC2) which is expected to be operational in November 2022.
