ABIDJAN PORT : 6 NEW GANTRY CRANES AND 7 RTG TO EQUIP THE SECOND CONTAINER TERMINAL The second container Terminal (TC2) will be operational before the end of 2022. For its coming inauguration, the Abidjan Port took delivery of
6 new generation gantry cranes and 7 RTG on Thursday 18 August 2022.
These gantry cranes, the biggest of their kind in Africa presently are the same type as post panamax with an outerbridge of 66 meters. They are 89 meters hig and have the capacity to handle container on to the vessels over an extension of 22 containers rows (50 meters)
In total the second Abidjan port’s container Terminal once in operation in November 2022 will be equipped with 6 shore gantry cranes, 13 yards gantry carnes, 36 tractors all of them are electric powered.
The terminal, once operational will the reception and handling of 14000 capacity container vessels with 16 m draught unlike vessels with 11.5 m draught and a capacity of 3500 containers presently.
This project has been made possible thanks to 269 CFAF billion investment made upstream by Abidjan Port Authority for earthworks , and the development of 37.5 ha open storage through hydraulie fill.
As regards CÔTE D’IVOIRE Terminal, the TC2 operator, it has invested up to 262 CFAF Billions for the construction of superstructure and the the procurement of equipment for the future pole of the Ivorian Port industry.
The reception ceremony of advanced equipment took place in the presence of Mr CONÉ Djoman, Chief of cabinet of the Minister of Transport, Mr Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of Abidjan port Authority, Mr Koen DE BACKKER, Director General of CÔTE D’IVOIRE Treminal, Mr Noumory SIDIBÉ, Director General of CÔTE D’IVOIRE Energie and an official of "Compagnie Ivoirienne d’Electricité" with the delivery of the equipment, the inauguration of the second Container Terminal is about to materialize.
