TOURING OF THE BUILDING SITES OF THE ABIDJAN PORT’S DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
On Thursday, 14 th September 2017, the Top Management of Abidjan port Authority opened up the doors of its development building sites to Mr Amadou KONE, Minister of Transport.
Considered as the life-wire of the Ivorian economy, Abidjan Port has been undergoing massive changes through the modernization of infrastructure and superstructure. After more than 50 years of existence Abidjan port’s upgrading works took off in October 2015, namely with the widening and deepening of the Vridi canal ‘s entrance fairway , the construction of a second container terminal and a RORO terminal, and the development of reclaimed land in the Vridi Bietry’s lagoon Bay and are making progress.
The delegation went round the building sites of caissons for the construction of quays in Azito, the reclaimation area in the Vridi Bietry Bay, the construction site of the widening and deepening of Vridi canal and finally the construction site of TC2 and the new RORO terminal.
It is worth mentioning that, besides the pier of the fishing terminal which was delivered in 2015, the other works are expected to be completed by 2019.
At the end of the tour, the Minister of Transport stated that “he was proud and happy to see the Abidjan Port at peak of development” because in his opinion, the works will help Cote d’Ivoire to become an emerging country. The Director General of the Ivorian Customs and the other members of the Abidjan Port Community also took part in the Tour.
