TRAINING SEMINAR ON THE FIGHT AGAINST MARINE POLLUTION
From 10 to 14 October 2022, was held at the Regional Academy of Sciences and Techniques of the Sea (ARSTM) in Abidjan, a seminar on the "Fight against Accidental Oil Pollution at Sea and on the Coastline", organized by the Interregional Maritime Safety Institute (ISMI) of ARSTM, as part of the WeCAPS project (European Union project to strengthen the safety and security of port infrastructure in West and Central Africa).
Twenty learners, from ten member countries of the 15 that make up this sub-regional academy, take part in this training which benefits from the support of experts from CEDRE and Expertise France. Among the trainees are three agents of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA).
This seminar also received specific support from the Abidjan Port, which will provide all the logistics for the realization of a practical exercise of pollution control, on Thursday 13 October.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Colonel ABÉ Lazare, Director of ISMI, representing the Director General of ARSTM, Colonel Karim COULIBALY, thanked all the partners associated with the organization of this fourth training session focused specifically on the fight against marine pollution.
He also urged the participants to make the most of it in order to contribute effectively to the fight against this scourge in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea where important activities of exploitation of offshore hydrocarbon resources are taking place, presenting potential risks of pollution.
