FIGHT AGAINST MARITIME PIRACY: A COUNSELOR ANNOUNCED AT THE U.S. EMBASSY IN CÔTE D'IVOIRE
The U.S. Embassy in Côte d'Ivoire will soon have a Maritime Advisor. This information was given by Mr. Brian LISKO, Head of Maritime Security in the U.S. Navy who was received in audience by Colonel Emmanuel Yao COFFI, Director of Maritime Operations, Security and Environment of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), on Monday 24 October 2022.
Mr. BRIAN said at this meeting that the arrival of the Maritime Advisor is an initiative that aims to provide technical assistance and training to the maritime and port actors of our country in order to comply more with international standards of safety and maritime security.
The mission of this expert will also help Côte d'Ivoire in the fight against criminal activities in the Atlantic Ocean such as maritime piracy, illegal fishing, etc.
For his part, the Commander of the Abidjan Port expressed his satisfaction with the interest of the United States in Côte d'Ivoire in general, and in particular the Abidjan Port. He stressed that the Port Authority, aware of the issues and problems at stake, has always made it a priority to raise the level of safety and security at the Abidjan Port. This is evidenced by the certification to ISPS Code standards (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) obtained since July 2004.
A visit to the Abidjan Port facilities ended that meeting.
