IN THE MARGIN OF THE 43 th ANNUAL COUNCIL OF PMAWCA : THE NETWORK FOR PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN THE MARITIME AND PORT SECTORS OF WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA HELD ITS PLENARY SESSION.
The 43th Annual Council of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa ( PMAWCA) which took place from 06 to 09 November 2023 in Lagos ,Nigeria was the occasion for the Technical Committee of the Port Women Network to hold its plenary session on Wednesday 08 November 2023.
At the start of the meeting,Mrs Florentine GUIHARD KOIDIO,Coordinator General of the Network for Professional Women in the Maritine and Port Sectors of West and Central Africa ( NWMPP-WCA) ,thanked the members of the Network for their massive presence ,proof of the growing interest for the promotion of women in this industry .
Then ,she recalled that this statutory meeting was aimed at reviewing the activities carried out and also at submitting to the different Managing Directors of PMAWCA the recommendations of the network for a better integration of women in the maritime and port sectors .
To this end, the reports of the two previous meeting were reviewed , true platform of experience sharing of NWMPP-WCA , namely the rotating annual seminar which was held in Ghana from 11 to 13 july 2023 on the theme :
" PMAWCA’s Ports Facing the Sustainable Development Challenges : Current Situation and Prospects",and also the 10th Edition of the Days of African and Spanish Women in the Maritine and Port Sectors, which took place from 02 to 06 October 2023 in Las Palmas,Gran Canary in Spain, on the main theme of Social and Environemental Responsibility in Ports.
The dynamism of the regional network is founded on that of local networks, and it is right that a recommendation was made regarding the institution of a day dedicated to the functioning of local networks.To that end, the Coordinator General of NWMPP-WCA invited the presidents of national networks to work on the revitalization of membership and implementation of high impact actions towards promotion of women .
With regard to actions to be carried out during 2024 ,NWMPP-WCA made provisions for four major actions :
A seminar and the elective general assembly of the network are planned to take place in Cote d’Ivoire ,and another seminar at the initiative of Tanger Med is planned with a view to sharing experiences on the establishment of foundations in the ports.
In the second semester, a meeting between the International Maritime Organization and the three associations of Women Professional in the Maritime and Port Sectors in Africa such as NWMPP-WCA( mainly
francophone) WIMOWCA( Women in Maritime of West and Central Africa-mainly anglophone ) and Women in the Maritime Sector in Eastern and Southern Africa ) is planned for September 2024 in Sao Tome and Principe, as well as the participation to the 44th Annual Council of PMAWCA in November 2024.
