VISIT OF ABIDJAN PORT’S FACILITIES BY THE DIRECTOR OF US. TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (USTDA)
On visit in Côte d'Ivoire from 18 to 19 March 2024, as part of the "US-Africa Green and Sustainable Financing" forum, a delegation of the US. Trade and Development Agency USTDA, led by its Director Mrs EMOH T. Ebong seized the opportunity to advance the process aiming at implementing the logistics center project backed by the Compact program in Cote d'Ivoire.
To that extent, on Monday 18 March, the delegation was granted an audience by Mr Hien SIÉ, Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority on the premises of the company.
The discussion focused on the improvement of the relationships between Côte d'Ivoire and the United-States of America and the development support provided by the USA to Côte d'Ivoire through project funding of which the rehabilitation project of "Boulevard du Port" through the Millennium Challenge Account (MCC) initiative.
During his address, the PAA's Top Executive took the opportunity of the visit to welcome the true cooperation between the USA and Abidjan Port which is evidenced through the support of American Coast Guards in maintaining and validating the process related to the safety of Abidjan Port’s infrastructure. Moreover, he requested support from the American Senior Manager to obtain funding for the modernization projects identified at Abidjan Port.
The USTDA's Director expressed her appreciation as to the strengthening of relations betwen Ivorians and Americans. In this regard, she indicated that the road and logistics project would not mark the end of the American support to Abidjan Port. According to her, even though the USA has adopted a new direction in favour of the clean energy sector, the development of transport remains central to the projects financed by her Country. Therefore, she keeps an eye on the different Abidjan Port's projects on search for funding.
The meeting was followed by a tour of the Port facilities along the Lagoon waters in order to enable the American delegation to see first-hand the modern development carried out in Abidjan Port.
It is worth noting that during the mission, the Director of USTDA took part in the signing of an agreement between the Côte D'Ivoire's. Ministry of Transport and NTLEX company, responsible for carrying out the feasibility study of the call system section of the Logistics Center.
As a recall, in June 2021, the financing agreement of the Center was signed in the USA between USTDA and the Ivorian Ministry of Transport.
