A DELEGATION OF EGYPTIAN BUSINESSMEN VISITS THE ABIDJAN PORT
A delegation of businessmen from the Arab Republic of Egypt visited the Abidjan Port on Tuesday 30 April 2024 as part of a drive to strengthen South-South cooperation.
The delegation was welcomed by the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, and the members of the Management Committee.
According to the head of the delegation, Mr. Kareem Hamdy Ahmed ABDALLA, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, the purpose of the visit to the PAA was to identify opportunities that could give new impetus to economic relations between his country and Côte d'Ivoire.
The Port Authority therefore took the opportunity of that meeting, before visiting the port facilities, to present to its guests the new configuration of the Abidjan Port, which follows a decade of modernisation work, as well as the traffic forecast for 2023. That traffic rose by 21.1%, from 28.8 million tonnes in 2022 to 34.7 million tonnes in 2023.
The share of Egypt in that traffic was estimated at 3.08 million tonnes in 2023, compared with 50,847 tonnes in 2019, driven by imports of inputs for cement manufacture.
Pleased with their visit, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ urged the Egyptian operators to increase their investments in Côte d'Ivoire, particularly in the Abidjan Port, in order to support the country's economic emergence.
It should be noted that the delegation took part in an Egypt-Côte d'Ivoire economic forum, which brought together businessmen who are clients of the Egyptian subsidiary of the Moroccan banking group, ATTIJARIWAFA. The theme of the forum was “a Business Bridge between Côte d'Ivoire and Egypt.”
