ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY HOST OF THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE ASSESSMENT CAMPAIGN OF FISHERY STOCKS IN THE GULF OF GUINEA
On 07 May 2024, the Ministry of Animal and Fishery Resources launched the 2024 Assessment Campaign of Fishery Stocks of Countries in the Gulf of Guinea, which took place at the new Abidjan Port's Grain Terminal.
Through this Campaign the research vessel Dr FRIDTJOF Nansen flying the Norwegian flag has called at Abidjan Port from 04 to 09 May 2024.
The ceremony which took place in the presence of Mr Sidi Tiemoko TOURE, Minister of Animal and Fishery resources was also attended by his counterparts from Benin and Ghana: Mr Gaston Cossi Dossouhoui and Mrs Hawa KOOMSON who also serves as Chairman of the Committee of Fishing on the Centre-west Gulf of Guinea (FCWC-Fish) several members of the Ivorian Government, and Heads of Diplomatic Missions and the Resident Representative of FAO in Côte d'Ivoire were also present at this Ceremony.
Taking part in the event, Mr Hien Yacouba Sie Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority, expressed in his welcome address his appreciation as to the choice of Abidjan Port to host the launching of the Campaign which would come up with solutions to the food security challenge which the Countries of the Gulf of Guinea are faced with.
He also recalled the massive investments made by Abidjan Port over the 2012-2023 period, thanks to the invaluable support of His Excellency Mr Alassane OUATTARA, President of Republic.
In his closing address he underlined the impact of the investments on the traffic which stood at 34.7 million tons of cargo in 2023, accounting for 21% increase as compared to 2022.
As regards Minister sidi Tiemoko TOURE, he affirmed that the campaign is the Norwegian Government's initiative which provides financing. The Food and Agriculture organization (FAO) is in charge of implementing the campaign with 32 countries including 7 Coastal African countries.
This cross-border campaign will start in Guinea Bissau and end in Ghana.
