THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY, SPONSOR OF THE 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE COLLÈGE MODERNE DE LA CITÉ DU PORT

On Thursday 16 May 2024, festivities were held to mark the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Collège Moderne de la Cité du Port. The ceremony was under the patronage of the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. HIEN Yacouba SIÉ, represented for the occasion by Mrs. MEITE Salimata FOFANA, Director of Human Resources.

In her welcome address, Mrs. NIOULE YAOVI Lydia Marie Dominique, Principal of that secondary school, expressed her gratitude to Mr. Hien SIÉ for his noble actions in favour of education in Côte d'Ivoire in general, and particularly for his ongoing support to the school she heads, through the annual donation of materials to the teaching staff and school supplies to the most disadvantaged pupils. She went on to plead with the sponsor for the completion of certain buildings, with a view to the opening of the secondary level next academic year. This will turn the school into a lycée.

As for the representative of the sponsor of this pewter jubilee, Mrs. MEITE Salimata FOFANA, focused her speech on the PAA's commitment to improving the education system in Côte d'Ivoire, through various sponsorship initiatives, the most significant of which is the sponsorship, for several years now, of the "Miss Mathématique Côte d'Ivoire" competition for excellence.

All those actions have earned the head of PAA to be awarded the rank of Commander in the Order of Merit of National Education, by the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mrs. Mariatou KONÉ, on 11 October 2023.

Addressing the pupils, especially those in 3rd grade, who have been dubbed the "Hien Yacouba SIÉ class", she urged them to study hard, in the image of their godfather, "a man of excellence, a seasoned public works engineer, who through his intelligence and managerial skills, has been working since 2011 to transforming the Abidjan Port."

At the start of the ceremony, Mr. Ali THIERO, Councillor and political advisor to the Mayor of Treichville, and Mr. KOUROUMA Ibrahim, Secretary General of the Direction Régionale de l'Éducation Nationale et de l’Alphabétisation (DREN A), also praised the godfather's efforts to promote excellence in the education sector in Côte d'Ivoire.

It’s worth noting that the Collège Moderne de la Cité du Port was created in 2014 and currently has 817 students.
