THE SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT OF JICA VISITS THE GRAIN TERMINAL AT THE ABIDJAN PORT
On a working visit to Côte d'Ivoire, the Senior Vice-President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. OBA Yuichi, visited the Abidjan Port's grain terminal, one of the fruits of Ivorian-Japanese cooperation, on Saturday 1 June 2024.
He was accompanied by Mr. WAKABAYASHI Motoharu, the JICA resident representative in Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. KUWAHATA Mitsuko, and Mr. YAO Guy-Michel, both in charge of the Infrastructure Programme of the JICA in Côte d'Ivoire.
During the visit, Mr. Thibaut DANHIN, Head of the Maritime Structures Service, in the PAA's Engineering Direction, presented to the Japanese delegation the new grain terminal at the Abidjan Port, which was built on 1,010 m of quay, 9 hectares of open land, 7 of which are reserved for warehouses and storage silo. He also pointed out that the terminal would enable the Abidjan Port to receive and handle bulk carriers with a draught of 13.5 m (compared with 9 m before the project) and a transport capacity of 70,000 tonnes (compared with 35,000 tonnes previously) under optimum conditions.
Mr. DANHIN also took the opportunity to give a general presentation of the projects initiated by the Port Authority with a view to strengthening the operational capacities of the Abidjan Port.
It should be noted that the new grain terminal was financed by JICA to the tune of 70 billion F CFA and has been in operation since 30 May 2023.
