10 YEARS OF PRESENCE FOR GRIMALDI GROUP IN CÔTE D'IVOIRE: A 5th GENERATION RO-RO VESSEL AT ABIDJAN PORT TO CELEBRATE THE EVENT

GRIMALDI Côte d'Ivoire celebrated its 10th anniversary of presence in Côte d'Ivoire on Wednesday July 17 2024. The celebration took place at the Ro-Ro Terminal of Abidjan (TERRA).

The celebration was enhanced by the presence of Mr. Amadou KONÉ, Minister of Transport, who has at his side, some major players of the two Ivorian ports, including Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, and many other distinguished guests.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the presence at the dock, of the new GRIMALDI’s G5 class Com-Ro ship named "MV GREAT ABIDJAN" in tribute to the Ivorian Nation.

According to Mr.Vincent GRIMLER, Managing Director of GRIMALDI Côte d'Ivoire,this inaugural stopover of the "GREAT ABIDJAN" is the sign of new quality infrastructure of Abidjan Port, of which the Ro-Ro terminal is one of the  flagships. For GRIMALDI Company, it is also the opportunity to materialize its willingness to improve the quality of its services to the Ivorians ports and particularly, Abidjan Port.

Following in the footsteps, Mr. Guiseppe PATANE, representing GRIMALDI shipping, thanked the Ivorian Government, through the Minister of Transport, for the major works carried out in Abidjan and San Pedro Ports, enabling its group to increase the number of their ship calls in Côte d'Ivoire.

 Pointing out the characteristics of the "GREAT ABIDJAN" he precised that the vessel was the fourth of its kind of six multipurpose innovative G5 class units. The ship is 240 meters long and 39 meters wide, with a capacity of 45684 tons.

This type of vessels can load 4700 linear meters of 2500 CEU's rolling stock and 2000 TEUs.

It also stands out advanced technological solutions, intended to increase its energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.

In his address, Mr Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of PAA, acknowledged the presence of the Minister of Transport, the prime support at the governmental level.

Then, he welcomed 10 years of excellent collaboration between GRIMALDI Company and the Port Authority, which significantly has contributed to the development  of Ro-Ro traffic in Abidjan Port.

As for the Minister of Transport, Mr. Amadou KONÉ seized the opportunity to extend the sincere thanks of the government and of His Exellency Mr. Alassane OUATTARA, President of the Republic for the valuable presence of GRIMALDI Group in the Ivorian port economy, and for its decisive actions attesting to the reliability of the Abidjan Port’s new infrastructure. He pointed out that the capacities and performances of the port have been upgraded through a major investment program of 1100 billion CFAF approved and backed by the government.

 At the end of the ceremony, a tour of the "GREAT ABIDJAN" was organized for the officials.

 Note that the "GREAT ABIDJAN" is the third tribute paid by GRIMALDI group to the Ivorian Nation, after the "GRANDE COSTA D’AVORIO" commissioned in 2011 and the "GRANDE ABIDJAN" in 2014.
