THE SECOND CONTAINER TERMINAL OF ABIDJAN PORT CELEBRATED ITS MILLIONTH TEUs
The second Container Terminal of Abidjan Port handled its millionth container (TEU) on July 2024 after one year and a half of operation.
During a ceremony organized on that occasion, Dr. Titi PALE, Commercial and Marketing Director, representing the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, stated that this performance indicated very good prospects after the significant investments made with a view to positioning Abidjan Port as a dynamic and competitive Port platform.
“Since the commissioning of TC2 in November 2022, its constant increase in performance is an established fact. Even better, these wise and necessary investments have pushed through the competiveness of Abidjan Port in all the West African region. The results alone speak for themselves.” The Commercial, Marketing and Communication Director said.
Mr. Koen De BACCKER, Director General of Côte d'Ivoire Terminal, the TC2 concession holder, expressed his gratitude to the Abidjan Port Authority for the confidence placed in his company.
He recalled the times of hard work of his work team to be able to get to this point in such a short time.
“This marks the final step of 594 days during which each of the 440 vessels handled, each container loaded and landed, represent a challenge met with passion and courage by all of our teams”, he revealed.
Mr Koen De BACCKER seized the occasion to announce the arrival of 6 new RTG (yard cranes) to enhance the handling capacity of containers on the TC2’s yard. Thus the handling devices increased to 24.
Let's recall that in 2023, Abidjan Port recorded in its two Container Terminals (Abidjan Terminal and Côte d’Ivoire Terminal) a traffic of 1238 195 TEUs as against 840 926 TEUs in 2022, accounting for 43.3% increase. This brings Abidjan into the circle of ports handling more than one million containers annually.
