FIRST EDITION OF THE FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE EXPO: THE ABIDJAN PORT IN ATTENDANCE
As the leading tuna port in sub-Saharan Africa, the Abidjan Port took part in the first edition of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Expo (SELAB FISHERIES EXPO 2025), held from April 24 to 26, 2025, at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire under the theme: "Sustainable Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture: What Policies and What Strategies?"
Organized by the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources, in collaboration with technical and financial partners including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the event aims to bring together key players in the fisheries sector to discuss policies and strategies that support sustainable fishing and aquaculture.
At this expo, the Abidjan Port Authority is hosted a booth to promote the operational and logistical capabilities of the Abidjan Port—especially those of the Fishing Terminal, known for its modern infrastructure and ranking among the best-performing facilities in West Africa.
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the official opening ceremony took place with the participation of Mr. Djakaridja TOURÉ, Director of the Fishing Terminal, representing the Managing Director, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Mr. Sidi TIÉMOKO TOURÉ, stated that the expo represents a major step in the strategic mobilization of animal and fishery resources in Côte d’Ivoire. According to him, this initiative will help enhance food security, attract investment, encourage innovation, and foster the adoption of modern technologies for a responsible exploitation of fishery resources.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister, Minister of Sports and Living Environment, Mr. Robert BEUGRÉ MAMBÉ, emphasized the Ivorian government’s commitment to making fisheries and aquaculture key drivers of national economic development and food security. He noted that concrete measures have been taken to combat illegal fishing and overexploitation, including tighter monitoring of fishing zones.
For this first edition, Egypt is the country of honor.
