VISIT OF APM TERMINALS AFRICA-EUROPE DIRECTOR TO THE ABIDJAN PORT
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, welcomed Mr. Igor VAN DEN ESSEN, Regional Managing Director for Africa and Europe at APM Terminals, in a courtesy visit. APM Terminals is a shareholder of Côte d’Ivoire Terminal (CIT), the operator of the second container terminal at the Abidjan Port.
Visiting Côte d’Ivoire for the 2025 Africa CEO Forum (May 12–13), Mr. VAN DEN ESSEN was accompanied by Mr. Lars VANG CHRISTENSEN, Head of Strategic Partnerships at APM Terminals, and Mr. Koen DE BACKKER, Managing Director of CIT. The meeting with the Abidjan Port Authority served as a platform to review the operations of Abidjan’s Second Container Terminal (TC2) and to discuss medium- and long-term development perspectives.
Mr. Hien SIÉ expressed his appreciation for this visit, which reinforces cooperation more than two years after the commissioning of TC2 in December 2022. Since then, the Abidjan Port has experienced remarkable growth, with container traffic rising from 840,926 TEUs in 2022 to 1.6 million TEUs in 2024.
To support this growth momentum, CIT is preparing for the arrival of new equipment, including quay and yard gantry cranes, to boost terminal handling capacity and meet increasing demand efficiently.
This strategic visit underscores the continuity of a fruitful partnership between the Abidjan Port and APM Terminals.
