MARITIME COOPERATION: PROTOCOL VISIT OF THE ITALIAN PATROL VESSEL “NAVE BETTICA” TO THE ABIDJAN PORT
As part of the “GABINIA” mission for maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, a delegation from the Italian Navy patrol vessel NAVE BETTICA visited the Abidjan Port on Monday, May 19, 2025. The delegation paid a protocol visit to the Abidjan Port’s Harbour Master Command (PAA) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Led by Commander CV Fernando CIANCI, Deputy Defense Attaché, the delegation was received by Mr. Macky SANGARÉ, Director of Digital Information Systems of PAA, representing the Harbour Master, Colonel COFFI Yao Emmanuel.
Aimed at strengthening cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Italy in maritime safety and surveillance, the visit provided an opportunity for CV CIANCI Fernando to commend the Abidjan Port Authority’s good practices and notable progress in port security and maritime threat prevention.
In turn, Mr. Macky SANGARÉ welcomed the presence of the Italian Navy in Ivorian waters. He conveyed greetings from the Port Authority and reaffirmed the Abidjan Port’s commitment—as a strategic hub in West Africa—to working alongside the Italian Navy to secure maritime corridors in the Gulf of Guinea.
