THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF PAA ANNOUNCES THE UPCOMING CELEBRATION OF THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PORT OF ABIDJAN

The Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, held a press conference on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the institution’s headquarters. This meeting with the media aimed to present the festivities marking the 75th anniversary of the Port of Abidjan and to highlight the remarkable journey of this strategic actor serving the national and sub-regional economy.

In his address, the Managing Director specified that the celebrations would take place on September 11 and 12, 2025, at the Port of Abidjan’s Grain Terminal.

He then reviewed the history of the Port, recalling its key role in Côte d’Ivoire’s economic development since its creation in 1950. Mr. SIÉ highlighted the major achievements in recent years, particularly the modernization of infrastructure, the digitalization of services, and the compliance with safety and environmental standards.

He underlined the continuous growth of total cargo traffic, which reached 40.1 million tons in 2024, compared to 34.7 million tons in 2023 — an increase of 15.6%.
Container traffic also recorded significant growth of 33%, rising from 1,238,195 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2023 to 1,646,304 TEUs in 2024.

To mark this milestone anniversary, a rich and diverse program was unveiled by the Managing Director, including:

  • Institutional activities, including an official ceremony
  • Thematic panels on the Port’s history, achievements, and future prospects;
  • Cultural and sports events highlighting the diversity and dynamism of the port community;
  • Open house days aimed at bringing the Port of Abidjan closer to the public and showcasing its professions, infrastructure, and innovations.

The Managing Director emphasized that this celebration would also serve as an opportunity to assess the journey and present the major ambitions for the decades ahead.

Following his presentation, Mr. SIÉ answered questions from journalists regarding the organization of the festivities, the Port Authority’s environmental commitment, and the ongoing digitalization of port services.

The 75th anniversary celebrations of the Port of Abidjan thus promise to be a highlight of the year, bringing together institutional partners, maritime stakeholders, port workers, and the general public around the legacy and future of this strategic infrastructure.

This event, both economic and cultural, stands as a testament to the central role of the Port of Abidjan in the international influence of Côte d’Ivoire and the sub-region.
