DEVELOPMENT OF THE PORT OF ABIDJAN: THE PORT AUTHORITY VISITS THE NEW SHORE CRANES AT THE FIRST CONTAINER TERMINAL
Following the presentation of the new 12,000-ton floating dock acquired by the Abidjan Ship Repair and Industrial Works Company (CARENA), Abidjan Terminal—the concessionaire of the Port of Abidjan’s First Container Terminal (TC1)—unveiled its latest acquisitions: two (02) new electric shore cranes with a 47-meter outreach and a lifting capacity of 65 tonnes.
The visit took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the terminal facilities, in the presence of the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Transport, Mr. Coné Djoman; the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Hien Yacouba Sié; Ms. Asta-Rosa Cissé, Regional Director of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Côte d’Ivoire–Burkina Faso, owner of Abidjan Terminal; and several port stakeholders.
Estimated at CFA 14 billion, these internationally compliant pieces of equipment aim to enhance the Port of Abidjan’s handling capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve trade flows.
In addition to the presentation of these cranes—bringing the total number of units at the terminal to seven (07)—the delegation also visited TC1’s control room. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, this facility ensures real-time monitoring of loading and unloading operations, guaranteeing optimal coordination among stakeholders.
The modern control room integrates advanced information management, communication, and security systems, designed to facilitate rapid and informed decision-making through accurate operational data. Supervision screens and specialized software allow operators to track, in real time, activities on the quays, container yards, and access gates.
At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Hien Yacouba Sié welcomed the arrival of these new facilities, which represent not only a major asset for the Port of Abidjan but also a lever for growth for the Ivorian economy. He took the opportunity to commend the enlightened vision of the Head of State, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, whose development policy, implemented since 2011, has enabled the Port of Abidjan to acquire infrastructure and superstructure capable of sustainably supporting national competitiveness.
For his part, Mr. Coné Djoman, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Transport, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that contribute to the growth of the maritime industry and praised the dynamic State–private sector partnership that enables such structuring investments.
