ECONOMIC AND SUSTAINABLE COOPERATION: A DELEGATION FROM THE EMBASSY OF THE KINGDOM OF BELGIUM VISITS THE PORT OF ABIDJAN

The Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ, granted an audience, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, to a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium to Côte d’Ivoire, led by Her Excellency Mrs. Carole VAN EYI, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, accompanied by representatives of several Belgian companies.

This visit formed part of efforts to promote economic exchanges between Côte d’Ivoire and Belgium, with a particular focus on the investment and partnership opportunities offered by the Port of Abidjan platform.

During the discussions, the Managing Director presented the Port of Abidjan’s performance, its flagship projects, and the development prospects driven by the modernization initiatives undertaken in recent years. He notably highlighted the investments made to strengthen the platform’s competitiveness, improve port infrastructure, and support the transition toward a more sustainable development model. He also emphasized the importance attached to staff training and capacity building, which remain key drivers of performance and operational excellence.

For her part, Her Excellency Mrs. Carole VAN EYI commended the strategic role of the Port of Abidjan in the Ivorian economy and its position as a leading logistics hub in West Africa. She expressed the interest of Belgian companies in cooperation opportunities in the port, logistics, industrial, and environmental sectors.

The discussions also focused on the challenges of sustainable development and eco-diplomacy through the promotion of growth models that reconcile economic attractiveness, innovation, and environmental responsibility. Both parties shared their vision of a partnership based on sustainable value creation and stronger exchanges between Ivorian and Belgian economic stakeholders.

This meeting made it possible to identify several mutually beneficial areas of collaboration and to further strengthen cooperation between the Abidjan Port Authority and its Belgian partners. It also reflects the growing attractiveness of the Port of Abidjan to international investors and its commitment to sustainable and responsible port development.
