ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY STRENGTHENS ITS HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT APPROACH THROUGH AWARENESS SESSION ON ISO 45001:2018
As part of its policy of valuing and protecting its human capital, the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) is continuing its efforts towards obtaining ISO 45001:2018 certification for its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System. In this context, an awareness conference on the requirements of the standard was held on Monday, August 10, 2026, in the meeting room of the former PAA headquarters, at the initiative of the Division of Engineering and Project Management (DIMO).
The session was co-chaired by Mr. MONI N’GUESSAN Hyacinthe, Director of Engineering and Project Management, and Mr. OUATTARA Bamoussa, Director of Land and Property At the opening of the session, Mr. MONI N’GUESSAN Hyacinthe outlined the key issues involved in this initiative, particularly the need to ensure that project teams have a clear understanding of, and effectively integrate, the requirements of ISO 45001:2018 into their activities.
The initiative is therefore intended to strengthen the culture of prevention within the Abidjan Port Community and help create the conditions required for the PAA to obtain this certification.
The awareness session was led by Mr. KOUAKOU Guillaume, an OHS consultant and expert. He addressed participants on the main requirements of ISO 45001:2018, including hazard identification, the assessment and control of occupational risks, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement of Occupational Health and Safety performance. The expert also emphasized the importance of Management’s commitment, worker participation and ongoing awareness among the various stakeholders.
The discussions highlighted that implementing ISO 45001:2018 cannot be limited to applying procedures, but must foster a genuine culture of prevention. Each stakeholder is therefore called upon to contribute to identifying hazardous situations, anticipating risks and complying with safety measures in the course of their activities. For the Abidjan Port Authority, this approach reflects its determination to place human capital at the heart of its strategy and make Occupational Health and Safety a driver of performance and long-term sustainability.
At the end of the discussions, Mr. OUATTARA Bamoussa officially closed the session. He commended the participants’ commitment and reaffirmed the importance of collective engagement in the success of the PAA’s Occupational Health and Safety initiative.
The meeting concluded with a dinner reception, providing participants with an informal setting in which to continue discussions on prevention and safety issues across the port platform.
