The main reception hall of the Novotel Abidjan Plateau hosted the first edition of the SWEET-BALL MEDIA AWARDS on Friday, August 21, 2026, an awards ceremony dedicated to Ivorian sports journalists.

The event was chaired by the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), represented by Mr. Chérif Tiémoko, Director of Procurement and Inventory Management. The evening paid tribute to the professionalism, passion and commitment of those working in sports media in Côte d’Ivoire.

Held under the banner of merit and recognition, the ceremony brought together several prominent figures from the worlds of sport, communications, the arts and media, united by a common ambition: to recognize those who contribute every day to promoting national and international sports.

Speaking on behalf of the patrons of the SWEET-BALL MEDIA AWARDS, Mr. Hubert Yomafou, Director of Urban Land Management, highlighted the essential role played by sports journalists in promoting sports culture and showcasing Ivorian talent.

During an evening filled with emotion and punctuated by artistic performances, several awards were presented by an independent jury to outstanding sports media professionals, including the Best Print Journalist Award, Best TV/Reporting Journalist Award, Best Radio Voice Award, as well as several other distinctions highlighting the diversity of professions within sports journalism.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Chérif Tiémoko, representing the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, reaffirmed the importance of recognizing merit and excellence. He encouraged Côte d’Ivoire’s youth to persevere in their efforts, recalling that “great victories are often built through challenges and setbacks.”

Through its support for the SWEET-BALL MEDIA AWARDS, the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, reaffirmed his support for Ivorian sports journalists, key contributors to the promotion of national sports, while also reaffirming the PAA’s commitment to supporting young African sporting talents and initiatives that help them emerge and thrive. This approach reflects the civic-minded vision of the Abidjan Port Authority, which actively supports initiatives that contribute to the promotion of sport and the international standing of Côte d’Ivoire.
