2024 INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURAL TRADE SHOW OF PARIS: THE 60th EDITION HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS
The 60th Edition of the International Agricultural Trade Show (SIA) which started on 24 February 2024 at the “Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles" in Paris, closed its doors on Sunday 03 March 2024. This international gathering was attended by Côte d'Ivoire which seized this opportunity to promote its agricultural, fishery and forest resources.
Abidjan Port Authority, First maritime gateway and catalyst of the national economy also took part in the event to showcase its potentials and investment opportunities.
The highlight of the presence of Côte d'Ivoire at this event, was the ministerial conference jointly delivered by three ministries which are The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Crop Production; the Ministry of Animal and Fishery Resources; and the Ministry of Water and Forests. This was during the Ivorian Day which was held on Thursday 29 February 2024. The Conference dealt with the agricultural, animal fishing and forest potentials of the country.
On that occasion Mr COULIBALY Nohoun, Cabinet Director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Crop Production speaking on the subject matter of "Food Crop Production and Food Sovereignty: Challenges and Development prospects" presented the performance recorded in spite of the external shocks of the Russian Ukrainian war. He indicated that in 2023, the grain production recorded a significant increase of 18% for rice, and 2% for corn.
He was followed by Minister Sidi TOURE who highlighted the assets and potentials of the sector of animal and fishery resources with investments opportunities. He said that one of the challenges was to meet the consumer needs of populations with local production. To this end, he encouraged investors of all kinds, but particularly, the Ivoirian Diaspora to take interest in livestock, fishing and fish farming, source of wealth and job creation. He pointed out that in this regard, that the State has put in place protection and facilitation measures for investors.
As for the Minister of Water and Forests, Mr. Laurent TCHAGBA, He concluded the presentations by putting the emphasis on the government policy in the protection of waters and forests. He said that the priority of his Ministry was to achieve a forest cover 20% over the whole national territory.
As a true platform for exchange, the International Agricultural Trade show of Paris is also an event for competition rewards, tasting and the discovery of the specialties from different countries.
Côte d'Ivoire through the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production won the prize in the "Catégorie richesses saveurs des territoires’’ -Riches and flavors of the territories - The prize rewards the most outstanding exhibition stand of a country, a region or a land. This was made possible through the farming industries, the institutions and the processing cooperatives which showcased the variety and wealth of the Ivorian agricultural know-how.
The 2024 Edition of SIA marked the celebration of six decades of passions, innovations and gathering of farmers, stock breeders, food industry professionals consumers, and passionate about the countryside.
