43th ANNUAL COUNCIL OF PMAWCA : MAJOR ISSUES ADDRESSED DURING THE MEETINGS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE TECHNICAL COMMITTEES

The 43th Annual Council of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa ( PMAWCA)took place on 06 November 2023 in Lagos,Nigeria.This important edition which focused on the progress of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area ( AFCFTA) in West and Central African Ports three years after.

Following the meetings of the 18th Round Table of Managing Directors which took place the day before ,the day of Wenesday 08 November 2023 was dedicated to a meeting of the Board of Directors extended to the heads of delegation and to the member organizations of PMAWCA,and also to the meeting of the four technical committees and the two networks ,namely :

• The Committee of Admnistrative and Legal Affairs
• The Finance and Economic Studies Committee
• The Maritime Security, Environmental Protection and Operation Committee
• The Technical Studies Infrastructure and Development Committee.
• Harbour Marsters and PFSO Network
• Network for Professional Women in the Maritime

and Port Sectors.

During these gatherings, key topics related to future port activities in a Free Trade area and networked Africa have been addressed.The meetings also dealt with issues related to the evolutive role of Port Authorities in their new visions of development,in relation to productivity,port competitiveness,security,connectivity and digitalization driven challenges.

In short ,these meetings provided privileged opportunities to identify the levers which could further boost the port industry in West and Central Africa.
