9TH EDITION OF THE AFRICAN PORTS AWARDS : THE PORT OF ABIDJAN RECEIVES A DOUBLE AWARD
The Port of Abidjan once again confirmed its leadership on the African port scene. On Friday, November 7, 2025, in Pointe-Noire (Republic of Congo), it received two major awards during the 9th edition of the African Ports Awards, organized on the sidelines of the 45th Annual Council of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).
During the closing gala dinner of the meetings, the Port of Abidjan was awarded two major distinctions:
· Best 2024 Import Traffic Performance Award (Volume), with a record national traffic of 30,874,313 tonnes, excluding transshipment and transit;
· Best 2024 Transit Traffic Award, recognizing a volume of 3,047,501 tonnes of cargo to hinterland destinations.
These two trophies consecrate the performance, reliability and attractiveness of the Port of Abidjan, which today stands as one of the most efficient and competitive logistics hubs on the African continent.
They also reflect recognition by the African port community of the Port of Abidjan’s driving role in sub-regional economic integration.

Results Reflecting an Ambitious National Vision
These distinctions are part of the momentum driven by His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, whose vision places port modernization at the heart of national and regional competitiveness. Under his leadership, more than CFA 1,100 billion in structuring investments have been made over the past decade to transform the Port of Abidjan into a modern, high-performance logistics platform.
Flagship projects include:
· the fishing terminal jetty (2015);
· the development of 43 hectares of industrial land (2016);
· the underpinning of the bulk terminal quay (2017);
· the widening and deepening of the Vridi Canal (2019);
· the commissioning of the modern ro-ro terminal (2018);
· the launching of the second container terminal (TC2) (2022);
· and the new grain terminal (2023).
Thanks to these achievements, the Port of Abidjan shows strong historical performance historic performance: container traffic doubled in two years, rising from 840,926 TEUs in 2022 to 1,646,304 TEUs in 2024, while overall cargo traffic increased from 22 million tonnes in 2010 to more than 40 million tonnes in 2024.

Recognized and Consolidated Leadership
This remarkable progress is the result of à visionary governance embodied by Mr. Hien Yacouba Sié, Managing Director of Abidjan Port of Authority.
Under his leadership, the institution has successfully combined infrastructure modernization, process digitalization, operational excellence and continuous service quality improvement, in compliance with international standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISPS.
These two awards received in Pointe-Noire confirm international recognition of the Ivorian port governance model and establish the Port of Abidjan as the leader of the West African maritime coastline.
Beyond performance, they symbolize national pride and the success of an economic model founded on the vision of the Head of State and the expertise of PAA teams.
By winning these prestigious trophies, the Port of Abidjan consolidates its status as the leading port of the West African coast and reaffirms its central role in the growth and economic competitiveness of the sub-region.
