ABIDJAN PORT: THE 2025 RESULTS COMFIRM THE RELEVANCE OF THE STRATEGIC CHOICES MADE SINCE 2012 UNDER Mr HIEN SIÉ
The 2025 year marked a decisive phase in the transformation trajectory of Abidjan Port. With a net total traffic of 46.9 million tonnes recorded in 2025, an increase of + 17% as compared to 40.1 million tons recorded in 2024, which account for a gross traffic of 50.6 million tons reached in 2025, an increase of 15.9% as compared to 43.7 million tons recorded in 2024, the port platform consolidates its regional leadership position and confirms the soundness of its strategic orientations engaged for over a decade.
This performance fits into a challenging political and economic context, characterized by a growing competition among the west African ports, by regional geopolitical tension and a reshaping of global logistic chains. Despite these challenges, the Abidjan Port demonstrates its ability to adapt, and its structural resilience.
A Growth Driven By the National Traffic
The national traffic, core of the port activity reached 34.4 million tonnes, accounting for a significant growth of 20.7%. The increase confirms the strategic role of Abidjan Port as the main gateway for trade in Côte d’Ivoire.
Beyond the port performance, these data also reflect the sustained momentum of the Ivorian economy and the scaling up of the national productive capacity. Thus, the port remains a reliable barometer of the country’s economic vitality.
Consolidated Container Dynamics
The containerized traffic reached 1.7 million TEUs in 2025 as against 1.6 million TEUs, representing an increase of +3.8%. For the second consecutive year the symbolic threshold of 1 million TEUs has been well exceeded, confirming Abidjan port’s position among the major platforms in West Africa.
This performance is the result of the direct investments made in structuring infrastructure particularly in the expansion and modernization of the terminal, which enable to improve productivity and quality services.
The Hinterland Corridor, A rebound in Traffic
Transit traffic into hinterland countries record a strong recovery, reaching 3.9 million tonnes as against 2.9 million in 2024, representing an increase of 34.9%.
Trade to Burkina Fasso increases by +15%.
Trade to Mali records an exceptional grow of 83.1% corresponding to 1,5% million tons in 2025 as against 0.8 million tonnes in 2024.
These results reflect the resumption of competitiveness in the corridors, namely the Abidjan Port-Burkina Faso corridor and the Abidjan Port – Mali corridor. They also reflect the strength of the economic subregional links, in a somewhat complex political environment.
A Controlled Adjustment in Transshipment
Transshipment experiences a slight decrease of -1.3% a context of strong competition among regional hub ports. However, the upward trend is sustained and does not alter the overall growth trajectory.
A Structuring Investment Assessment
Since 2012, 1000 billion CFA Francs have been invested in the modernization of port infrastructure under the management of Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ.
The investments gave way to:
- the increase in reception capacity
- the significant improvement in productivity
- the compliance of the port platform to international standards
The 2025 results thus, reflect a tangible indicator of relevant strategic choices made over the last decade. They also reflect a coherent long-term vision aligned with the national ambition driven by His Excellency Mr. Alassane OUATTARA, President of the republic, aiming at making Côte d’Ivoire a strong economic, competitive nation structured around world class infrastructure.
Clearly Stated Ambition
Based on the achievement recorded, Abidjan Port builds on its transformation with the view to reach the objective of 2 million TEUs by 2027 and to sustainably establish itself as a reference logistic Hub on the African Atlantic Coast.
The 2025 year does not merely indicate a short-term performance: it represents the completion of a strategic investment cycle and the confirmation of a resilient integrated future-oriented port model.
