THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY AND THE MAERSK GROUP CONSOLIDATE THEIR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

The Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, received in audience on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, a delegation from the MAERSK Group led by Mr. Charles VAN DER STEENE, Regional Managing Director for India, the Middle East and Africa.

The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for the representatives of the Danish group to congratulate the Managing Director on his appointment and to wish him every success in leading the ambitions of Côte d’Ivoire’s leading port platform.

The discussions focused on the prospects for developing MAERSK’s activities at the Port of Abidjan, in a context of sustained growth in trade and higher requirements in terms of logistics performance. The two parties notably discussed ways of strengthening their cooperation through continuous improvement in operational performance, logistics innovation, process digitalization and optimization of the logistics chain.

The MAERSK delegation reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing a long-term partnership with Abidjan Port Authority, based on mutual interests and aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the port platform and supporting the development of the Ivorian economy.

For his part, the Managing Director of PAA welcomed the contribution of the MAERSK Group to the performance of the Port of Abidjan. He also welcomed Côte d’Ivoire’s selection to host the group’s regional headquarters for Africa, covering twenty-four (24) countries. This decision reflects the attractiveness of the country and the strategic positioning of the Port of Abidjan as a regional logistics hub.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders within the Port Community of Abidjan. Mr. Kassoum TRAORE assured his guests of the Abidjan Port Authority full readiness to continue this cooperation, in accordance with shared interests and with the aim of developing an increasingly efficient and competitive port platform.
