THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY SHARES ITS VISION OF PORT COMPETITIVENESS BASED ON WELL-MANAGED INVESTMENTS
The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) took part in the 7th edition of the African Risk Management Meetings, held on July 2 and 3, 2026, at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire and organized by the Ivorian Network for Risk Management and Corporate Insurance (RIMRAE).
Held under the theme “Risk Management: A Pillar of a Resilient, Transformed and Sustainable Africa,” the event brought together experts to discuss issues related to risk management and the secure financing of major projects. In this context, Mr. MONI N’Guessan Hyacinthe, Director of Engineering and Project Management, representing the Managing Director of PAA, Mr. Kassoum TRAORE, took part in a panel dedicated to the competitiveness of the Port of Abidjan, highlighting the role of risk management in the success of port investments.
He recalled that the Port of Abidjan has made significant investments in major infrastructure projects, including the widening and deepening of the Vridi Canal, the development of industrial land through land reclamation, the construction of the second container terminal, as well as fishing, grain, Ro-Ro and mineral terminals. These infrastructures have strengthened the competitiveness of the port platform and contributed to increasing its traffic to 46,935,601 tonnes in 2025.
To secure these investments and manage the risks associated with its activities, PAA relies on several international standards: ISO 9001:2015 certification, relating to service quality and continuous performance improvement; ISO 14001:2015 certification, focusing on environmental protection and the management of environmental impacts; ISO/IEC 27001 certification, obtained in 2023 and dedicated to information security; as well as compliance with the ISPS Code, ensuring the security of port facilities against malicious acts. PAA is also pursuing the process towards obtaining ISO 45001 certification, dedicated to occupational health and safety.
Addressing competitiveness challenges, Mr. MONI N’Guessan Hyacinthe stressed that infrastructure alone is not sufficient. Better flow management, effective governance and coordinated management of the risks related to urbanization, congestion and administrative procedures remain essential to sustainably preserve the performance of African ports.
Through this participation, the Abidjan Port Authority reaffirms its commitment to making risk management a driver of competitiveness and sustainable development.
