ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY IMMERSED IN THE HYDRAULIC TESTING LABORATORY OF HOHAI UNIVERSITY IN CHINA

On a visit to the People’s Republic of China as part of a working mission, a delegation of Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) led by Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director visited, on 27 September 2023, the University of HOHAI, located in the city of NANJING, in the south of the country.

At this stage, the delegation paid an immersion visit to the hydraulic testing laboratory of the prestigious Chinese university the ‘‘Institute of Water Science and Technology’’. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. CHEN Guoping, Vice President of the university was surrounded, for the occasion, by the university team.

The immersion in the laboratory provided the opportunity for Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ and his fellow workers to discover this hydraulic modeling and testing Center.

Thus, the delegation has been able to realize the technological development level of the laboratory, its technical facilities its comprehensive expertise as well as its ongoing and future structuring projects, which makes it one of the top hydraulic testing laboratory in the world.

Following this constructive and proactive exchange, which enabled to highlight the framework and the environment of intervention of this hydraulic testing laboratory, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ announced the upcoming completion, by the laboratory, of a major study on the Abidjan’s seabed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The study is meant to come up with the maintenance of breakwaters along the Vridi Canal.

Established in 1915 under the name of HoHai Civil Engineering School, this Chinese university is well known in the academic field as a technical university of water resources. It actively contributes to the development of most of the major maritime works in China and even in the world.
