ABIDJAN PORT: INCREASING CAPACITY AT THE SECOND CONTAINER TERMINAL
The Abidjan Port is boosting its container handling capacity with the arrival on Thursday 10 August 2023 of new container handling equipment at its second container terminal (TC2).
Inaugurated on 02 December 2022, the TC2 yesterday received 05 new fully electric gantry cranes (RTG), worth around 6 billion CFA francs. The purpose of this state-of-the-art equipment is to speed up container loading and unloading operations for both imports and exports, and to increase the throughput and management of the container fleet.
With the delivery of these machines, the TC2, which had 06 gantry cranes with a span of 62 m, 13 electric gantry cranes and 36 totally electric tractors when it began operating, now has 18 electric gantry cranes.
This new ultra-modern equipment is even more powerful. It can store 9 containers on the same line, compared with 7 in the past. Thanks to this competitive advantage, it will contribute to improving the productivity of the Abidjan Port, boosting delivery rates, reducing goods handling times and revitalising trade by improving national and sub-regional logistics services.
It should be remembered that the TC2 at the Abidjan Port has been awarded the "Green Terminal" label because its equipment is entirely powered by electricity. The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) is thus reaffirming its commitment to the environment and its desire to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment by optimising the energy efficiency of its infrastructure and superstructure.
Thanks to the dynamism instilled by Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the PAA, Côte d'Ivoire Terminal, the concession-holder for TC2, is embarking on another important stage in its investment programme on the Abidjan Port platform with the arrival of this new equipment.
