ABIDJAN PORT PARTICIPATES IN THE 12TH EDITION OF THE CGECI ACADEMY
The General Confederation of Enterprises of Côte d’Ivoire (CGECI) hosted the 12th edition of its flagship economic forum, “CGECI Academy,” on November 25 and 26, 2024, at the Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire Conference Center.
The official opening ceremony took place on Monday, November 25, 2024, in the presence of His Excellency Alassane OUATTARA, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire; Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet KONÉ; prominent institutional leaders; Dr. Ngozi OKONJO-IWEALA, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); various government officials; and development partners.
As a partner of the event, the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) was represented by its Managing Director, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ. The PAA also operated an exhibition stand to highlight the advantages of Abidjan Port and its role as a catalyst for Côte d’Ivoire’s economy.
President Alassane OUATTARA, accompanied by Dr. Ngozi OKONJO-IWEALA, visited the PAA stand and congratulated Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ on the significant structural transformation of the port infrastructure through the carrying out of mayor projects in Abidjan Port under his enlightened leadership.
The forum, themed “What Service Industry for Boosting the Performance of African Economies?” aimed to explore strategies to enhance the competitiveness of the private sector across the continent.
Mr. Ahmed CISSÉ, President of CGECI, in his address, welcomed the Head of State, he emphasized the importance of a thriving private sector for economic and social development. He commended President OUATTARA for his commitment to entrepreneurship, and fostering a business-friendly environment.
He also acknowledged Singapore and Mauritius, the guest countries of honor, for their outstanding service sectors, including banking, insurance, and digital technologies.
Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet KONÉ, delivering remarks on behalf of President OUATTARA, highlighted the vital role of the private sector in Côte d’Ivoire’s economic growth. He pointed out the valuable opportunity provided by this forum to share experiences from various countries. He encouraged participants to share best practices and innovative strategies to further strengthen the service industries’ contribution to African economies.
