AFRICAN LIBERAL YOUTH FOR FREEDOM DISCOVERING ABIDJAN PORT
On 08 May 2024, the Abidjan Port Authority received a delegation of African Liberal youth for Freedom (ALYF) led by its President Mrs Kwatar Mawas.
The visit took place on the margins of a regional workshop organized by the organization in Abidjan from the 6 to 9 May 2024 ahead of the launching of the Liberal Forum planned to take place in the Ivorian economic capital under the theme: "Abidjan, World Capital of Liberalism in 2024" .
In her statement, Mrs Kwatar Mawas firstly acknowledged the dynamism of the Ivorian economy at the instigation of His Excellency Mr Alassane OUATTARA, President of the Republic. Then she gave the meaning to their approach which aims at knowing more about the Port of Abidjan, a strategic tool for the national and sub regional development.
Mr Hien Yacouba SIE, Managing Director of Abidjan Port Authority, pleased with this initiative indicated that the model of economic liberalism is what ensures development and growth of a country by providing investment opportunities and contributing to national wealth. In this dynamic, the ports play a major role as the gateway to international markets.
In this respect, in order to support the economic recovery of Côte d'Ivoire with the Ivorian government’s assistance, the Top Management of PAA launched a modernization program of Port infrastructure as from 2012. The works completed in 2022 enabled Abidjan Port to regain all its competitiveness and consolidate its subregional leadership.
According to the Managing Director, the performances of Abidjan Port have been excellent in 2023, as illustrated by the 21% increase in overall traffic accounting for 34.7 million tons. He went into details by putting an emphasis on national traffic (imports and exports of Côte d'Ivoire) which represents 79.5% of overall traffic with 27.6 million tons.
He closed this chapter by indicating the clear progress of 47.3% in container traffic which stood at 1.2 million TEUs in 2023 as against 840 thousand TEUs thanks to the entry into service of the second Container Terminal (TC2) since December 2022.
The Top executive of PAA concludes with some advice to these young liberals whom he urged to go for research and continuing education to acquire the necessary skills in order to effectively fulfill future high responsibilities that are theirs in their respective countries.
"I encourage you to learn more every day, as one is never knowledgeable enough", he concluded.
Let's note that the delegation visiting PAA was composed of young liberals from various countries which are Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Togo, Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Burkina Faso, Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire.
