CAMEROON’S STAFF COLLEGE VISITS ABIDJAN PORT: STRENGTHENING COOPERATION AND EXPLORING PORT INFRASTRUCTURE STRATEGIC CHALLENGES
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the Abidjan Port Authority hosted a delegation of fifty-three (53) officers and trainees from the 29th cohort of the Staff College of Yaoundé, Cameroon, led by Colonel ABANDA Bernard, Commander of the Staff College of Yaoundé.
As part of their practical training curriculum, the delegation explored various facets of the port’s operations. The primary objective of this visit was to familiarize the military officers with logistical operations and raise their awareness of maritime security, a critical issue in today’s geopolitical context.
During the tour, the officers visited several terminals at Abidjan Port, including the Grain Terminal, the Bulk Terminal, the Fishing Terminal, the Ro-Ro Terminal, and the two Container Terminals (TC1 and TC2).
At the end of the visit, Captain KONATÉ Arounan, spokesperson for the 29th cohort, commended the Port Authority’s leadership for the significant infrastructure developments in recent years. He noted that the insights gained from this visit were highly beneficial to their practical training.
Beyond technical aspects, this immersive experience strengthened cooperation between Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire in maritime security, especially as both countries face similar challenges as to securing maritime routes and combating piracy.
