CHEC GROUP PRESENTS ITS NEW STRATEGY TO THE PORT AUTHORITY
A delegation of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) led by its Vice President Mr. Liu BAOHE paid a courtesy visit on 19 July 2022 to Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA).
According to Mr. BAOHE, the purpose of this visit was to inform the head of the PAA of the diversification of his group's activities.
In the past, CHEC was specialized in engineering and the realization of infrastructures within the framework of the execution of state financing. Today, faced with the evolution of the market and the increasing demand for a complete accompaniment, the CHEC group has decided, in addition to this expertise, to bring from now on financing offers to the projects it will have to realize.
Convinced by the willingness of the Managing Director of the PAA to build a reference port by modernizing the infrastructures, the CHEC delegation therefore came to propose a new and more complete offer.
Mr. Hien SIÉ, after thanking the Chinese delegation for its approach, welcomed this new orientation which meets the expectations of the Abidjan Port Authority.
He also pointed out that in order to encourage this type of initiative, Côte d'Ivoire has made legal provisions to protect the interests of investors and secure their various operations. To illustrate his remarks, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ gave the example of the financial model of Public Private Partnerships (PPP), which is a secure framework for financing major projects in the country.
Finally, the port authority reaffirmed its willingness to continue the collaboration with the CHEC group, taking into account this new dynamic. He promised to study this offer very closely in the framework of the next modernization projects of the Abidjan Port.
It should be recalled that CHEC is the company that carried out the work of widening and deepening the Vridi canal as well as the construction of the berths of the second container terminal (TC2) and the Ro-Ro terminal of Abidjan.
