A DELEGATION OF ITALIAN BUSINESS LEADERS EXCHANGED VIEWS WITH THE PORT AUTHORITY
A delegation of Italian business leaders was received in Côte d'Ivoire by the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, on 22 February 2024 as part of a business development mission.
The delegation, made up of the IGNAZIO MESSINA Group and the ROCKFREE shipping company, discussed the development of maritime transport in Côte d'Ivoire with the Port Authority.
The Chairman and CEO of the IGNAZIO MESSINA & C group, Stefano MESSINA, said he was at the Abidjan Port to seize any business opportunities for his group, which specialises in transport, transit, logistics and maritime consignment. He stressed that his group intends to contribute to the development of the Abidjan Port and, by extension, to the growth of the Ivorian economy.
Continuing, Mr. Stefano MESSINA, in his capacity as Honorary Consul of Côte d'Ivoire in Genoa (Italy), announced his intention to work towards a twinning between the Abidjan Port and that of the city of Genoa, Italy's main port.
In his remarks, Mr. Hien SIÉ, who welcomed the visit, expressed his interest in consolidating inter-port relations. To this end, he indicated that his institution is ready to work towards the effective signature of a twinning agreement with the largest Italian port, for an enriching sharing of experiences.
The Port Authority took the opportunity of this meeting to present to its guests the new configuration of the Abidjan Port, as well as the traffic forecast for the end of the 2023 financial year. Traffic will increase by 21%, from 28.6 million tons in 2022 to 34.7 million tons in 2023.
According to the Managing Director of PAA, this performance is the fruit of the major works carried out over the past decade, but above all of the dynamism of the national economy.
The delegation, led by Mrs. Marianna Pascale, Head of Trade and Investment Partnerships at the Côte d’Ivoire Embassy in Italy, then toured the port facilities.
