A DELEGATION FROM THE JAPANESE MINISTRY OF FINANCE VISITS THE GRAIN TERMINAL OF ABIDJAN PORT
As part of a monitoring and evaluation mission for projects funded by Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA), a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Finance visited Côte d'Ivoire from February 26 to 27, 2025. Led by Mr. KOHNO Aiichiro, the mission aimed to assess the financial progress of ongoing ODA loan projects in the country.
One of the key moments of this visit was the inspection of the new grain terminal at the Port of Abidjan. Fully funded by the Japanese government, with an investment of 70 billion CFA francs through its international cooperation agency (JICA), this terminal was built to enhance the port’s capacity for grain importation and storage. This strategic infrastructure aligns with the cooperative efforts between Côte d'Ivoire and Japan, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to address development challenges together.
During the site visit, the Japanese delegation noted the quality of the completed work and welcomed the expected impact of this infrastructure on food security in Côte d'Ivoire. Thanks to this new terminal, the Abidjan port platform now plays an even more central role in supplying grain to the country and the West African region.
Built on a 9-hectare land area, with 1,010 linear meters of quay and a 14-meter draft, the grain terminal, operational since May 2023, enables the Port of Abidjan to accommodate vessels carrying up to 70,000 tons of cargo.
